For the winners Miss McGregor played a splendid forward game, and was ably assisted by Misses W. Logan and A. Pyke. In . the backs, Misses I. McKenzie, M. McHattie and F. Hood played well. For Garry Owen Miss K. OLeary was the pick of the forwards, and Misses M. Hourigan and M. Hanley were also prominent. In the backs Miss M. Collins played a first rate game. i Glengairys showed more combination ' than their opponents, the backs feed-, ing the wing forwards whenever they got the chance. The Garry Owens used the touch-line too much, and did not assist each other sufficiently. They also showed lack of form. The Huia Hockey Club held a very successful practice at Lansdowne, yesterday afternoon. The first spell was between teams picked- by the Vice-Captain and Secretary, and a good even game resulted. The second half consisted of a game between what will practically be the forward team in the Hughes Shield Competition playing against the back division. The forwards made things very merry, and goals were scored in rapid succession. All the scores were the lesult of well-timed passing rushes, and the goals hit was clean. The Huias should be hard to beat in the competition if the form shown yesterday is any guide. The only fault was, in some instances, keeping the ball too long before passing. The backs showed real good form, but want to hit harder. The Rev. A. M. Johnson was acted as referee. The final selection of a team to represent the club in the championship matches will be made on Monday evening.
