A FRENCH STEAMER WRECKED.

FIFTEEN PASSENGERS DROWNED. Received May 9, 10. 59 p.m. PARIS, May 9. The French steamer Poittof, which left Marseilles for Buenos Ayres, ■ was wrecked at Cape Santa Manna, in a gale. The passengers were chiefly Spanish emigrants. Many became panic-stricken, and tried to swim ashore. Fifteen were drowned, and two hundred saved. Nearly one hundred women were battened cbwn below at the moment of the disaster. Rescue work is proceeding.
