THE NEW HEBRIDES.
Received May 7, 8.40 a.m. LONDON, May 6.
Sir Joseph Ward has nominated'F. Fitchett to' 'the' Ah&lbVFrertch New Hebrides Committee, which will arrange' the dietails of the court, salar/ies of officers,; and other administrative matters, j The v C6lonial Office suggested that Mr Deakin should accept Mr Fitchett ; as Australia's representative.
Mr Deakin curtly declined,-de-claring that since he was not consulted originally, he did not now desire to assume responsibility for a convention which did not promise to succeed, being full of administrative difficulies, besides introducing a dual system of jurisdiction.
