TERRIFIC EXPLOSION.
TWENTY-ONE PEOPLE KILLED. HUNDREDS INJURED. Received May 5, 5.15 p.m. PEKIN, May 4. An explosion of gunpowder in a magazine at Canton killed 21 persons and injured hundreds. It destroyed two hundred feet of the city walls. Fifteen dwellings were unroofed, including a house a mile distant. The shock in the European quarter was terrific.
