TWO MINES CLOSED DOWN. Received May 2, 8.44 a.m. ' ' ' PiRETOIIIA, May l. _ The directors"''of 1 the' Kleinfontein Deep and Van Ryn Deep gold mines, on the Ritnd have decided to close down. Their funds are nearly Exhausted and they are unable at present to raise the large sums required to develop the rhines. Received May 2 9.20 a.m. LONDON, May 1. The Times* Johannesburg correspondent says that the Colonial Secretary (Mr Smuts) is earnestly attempting to understand the difficulties of the mining industry, but the Imperial Government h still pressing the Transvaal to procure the immediate repatriation of the Chinese.
