The.. Manager, of .the Abattoir- wrote asking the Council, to> take steps hi. connection with the notice, receivedi from* the ; South. Wairarapa. Gounty Council stating. that ■ the water in the- races that, supplied* the' abattoir with water would be cut offfor' cleaning' purposes. .It was decided, to ask : the- South 1 Wairarapa Council not", to cut off the. water for a; month. The Water. .Committee was instructed to immediately consider, the question• of , the.'abattoir water supply> j Applications from the Wellington and Wairarapa Charitable Aid Board and the Wairarapa District Hospital. Board for. payment of. the usual demands for the upkeep of charitable institutions and hospitals were referred to the Works Committee, i
Mr W. E. Cullen wrote offering to number the houses in the borough with brassjnumbers, at the rate of Is 6d per house, or paint- the numbers on houses at the-rate-of 9d per house. The Town Glerk stated that a Mr Quinn, of Canterbury, had been given permission to number the houses' in the'borough,, but he had not yet come to Masterton to do so. It was decided to ask Mr Quinn to carry out his contract or else .forfeit it.- Mr Cullen's letter, was held .over pending,! a reply from Mr Quinn. > An application from Messrs E. Reynolds and Co.- for permission to hold a motor car race on'the borough, roads oh May 24th was refused.
A letter was received from the Bailway Department with reference to the cutting of the trees un Mr W. C. Cargill's property abutting on the railway line at Kuripuni. The letter stated that the work of cutting the trees was delayed, "as it was thought the Council was g6ing to purchase a portion of the property for the widening of Short Street. It was stated that the Council had no intention of purchasing the' property, and it was decided to ask Mr Cargill'to cut the trees that obstruct the view of the railway line from the road. An application from the Municipal Fire Brigade ,for payment of £2B for accident insurance,, salaries, and sundries, up to the end.of June next, was referred to the Finance Committee with power to act. It was decided to take the necessary steps to bring the Fire Brigades' Act into operation in Masterton. Accounts amounting to £704 14s 5d were passed for payment.
