MAYORAL INSTALLATION.

. NEW COUNCILLORS WEL. COMED. The newly-elected Mayor (Mr J. M, Coradine) was installed, at the meeting of the Borough Council, last evening.. There were also present:— The retiring Mayor (Mr J. A. Renall), and Crs. J. \E. Pauling, J. Elliott, F. W. Temple, A. Haughey, J. C. Ewington, J. Prentice, J. Yarr, W. Morris and W. Pragnell. After the Councillors had made the statutory declaration, the retiring Mayoi welcomed the Councillors. He was glad to see the old Councillors who had stood for election returned, and congratulated the new members os] their election. Ee trusted they would get on' well with the new Mayor, whom he thought would be a good leader. He exhorted them to do their duty to the citizens whom they represented.' The minutes of the previous Council meeting were then read, and confirmed.

The retiring Mayor then vacated the chair, and in asking the newlyelected Mayor (Mr J. M. Coradine) to take over the conduct of business hoped that the new Mayor and Council would work smoothly together. . He saw a great future in store for Masterton, and with judicious management he thought that Masterton could rise to,.be the chief inland town of the colony. An important matter to be considered was the spending of the loan money, and he thought it would be spent judiciously by such a Council. He wished the Mayor and Councillors a successful terrii of office. The Mayor (Mr J. M. Coradine) thanked Mr Renall for his kind Words, and hoped that his expectations would be realised. He recognised that he and the Council were elected to do the business of the borough,' He would be pleased to work in harmony with the Council, and he would use his powers as Mayor to carry out the business well. In conclusion he outlined the rules for the government of Council meetings for the benefit of the new Councillors. Crs Elliott, Temple, Morris, Pauling ,and Ewington, welcomed the Mayor, and the new Councillors, and hoped that the workTwould be carried on amicably during the coming twelve months. Crs Prentice, Pragnell, Yarr and Haughey, returned thanks . for the welcome extended to them.
