NEW PYMOUTH, April 30
Before Mr Riddle, S.M.. to-day, R. F. Roebuck was fined £lO and costs for having sold goods by auction, he being unlicensed. Defendant officiated as an auctioneer in disposing of things at the Methodist Harvest Festival in the country, and pleaded that the offence was committed in ignorance. The Magistrate said that he could not inflict a less fine than £lO, but, on the suggestion of defendant's counsel* agreed to make representations to the Department asking that the penalty should be remitted and only a nominal fine imposed.
