THE MILITARY ESTIMATES.
Received April 29, 9.35 a.m. BERLIN, April 28. Speeches by Socialists in the Reichstag with reference to the military estimates were remarkably conciliatory. This is interpreted to mean that the Socialists consider the moment is unsuitable for weakening Germany's position with relation to foreign countries.
NO ANGLO-SPANISH ALLIANCE. Received April 29, 8.28 a.m. BERLIN, April 28. The denial of Sir Edward Grey, Minister for Foreign Affairs, of the existence of an alliance between Britain and Spain, coupled with the fact that there has been heavy participation of British capital in the German twenty million loan.Jjhas had a reassuring effect on public feeling in Berlin.
THE KIEL CANAL. Received April 29, 10.57 p.m. BERLIN, April 29. The German estimates provide seven and a-half million sterling as a first instalment for widening the Kiel Canal. The work rt will occupy eight years, and will cost eleven millions.
