STOCK MARKET.
Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report on their Pahiatua stock sale held on Tuesday as follows : We again had a good yarding of sheep. A good entry in lambs met with keen competition, and we had no difficulty in quitting the catalogue at prices in excess of those ruling at late sales. The enquiry for wethers was animated, all en- . tries in this;class selling readily under the hammer. In ewes best sorts were well competed for, but old and backward ewes were hard to quit, a total clearance with the exception of one small lot was, however, made. Taken all round the sale was most successful, and we have to report a rise in prices for all classes. In cattle we yarded a total of 514 head embracing all classes. The enquiry was good and we sold the whole yarding with the exception of a few odd lots of cows at satisfactory prices. We quote: —Sheep: Lambs (best woolly) 13s 6d, lambs (best shorn) 12s Id, others (shorn) lis 9d, lis 6d, lis 4d,. lis, down to 10s, medium sorts 7s Id to 9s 4d, 2 and 4-tooth wethers 16s 9d, 2-tooth wethers 15s to 16s 7d, best young ewes in lamb 18s 4d to 20s. others 13s to 15s 6d, backward ewes in lamb lis to 12s, e-npty ewes 10s to 13s, according to condition, poorer sorts 7s 5d to 9s 4d, culls 3s lOdto 5s 3d. Only about 100 head of cattle were advertised, and the firm again impresses upon vendors the advisability of notifying them of entries coming forward, so that particulars can be advertised and prospective buyers notified. There was a good demand for sheep, and most Kn6s were disposed of. Cattle were also in request, and the majority of- entries found, .purchasers under the hammer at prices showing an improvement . on last sales.
