A SENSATIONAL AFFAIR.
Received April 24, 10.32 a.m. PERTH, April 24. A sensational attempt was made to shoot Captain Hare, Commissioner of Police. Captain Hare was sitting in his office reading a report, when an ex-corporal named Tyler rushed in exclaiming: "I've got you this time!" Tyler fired a revolver point blank, and the bullet passed through the paper in Captain Hare's hand and lodged in the wall. The commissioner grappled with Tyler, who again fired. The bullet struck Captain Hare's shirt front, which was heavily starched, causing the bullet to glance oft'. It then struck Captain Hare's shoulder, but did not penetrate. Assistance arrived, and the maddened assailant was overpowered.
ASSAILANT HAD A GRIEVANCE. Received April 24, 10.42 a.m. PERTH, April 24. Tyler resigned from the police two years ago, as a protest against being fined on a charge He has since nursed a grievance, and has been continuously trying to get the case re-opened.
CRICKET. Received April 24,10.37 p.m. SYDNEY, April 24. The Board of Cricket Control has* received. a cable confirming the. Marylebone Cricket Club's accepts ance of the Board's offer for an English team to visit Australia with the proviso that the Marylebone Club approves of the Board's programme of matches which were cabled to London.
