THE NEW "IMPERIAL GUARD."
(From Our London Correspondent.)
LONDON, February 20. Some notes were before me at the time of posting my last letter with reference to the formation of the Imerial Guard, but I had reason to doubt the accuracy of all the information. It is well that I kept the notes back, as I find that, although' certain other papers printed them, they ware not wholly correct. •A patriotic movement is on foot for the formation of a great "Imperial Guard" to be composed of representatives from picked regiments existing in the principal Colonies and Dependencies of the Empire. The' idea |s that the contingents should be affiliated to the King's Colonials, who are themselves an outcome of the war in South Africa. The project originated entirely in the Colonies, but it has been taken up enthusiastically by members of liament associated with the Dominions beyond the Seas. The King's Colonials constitute one of the regiments of the Imperial Yeomanry, the Prince of Wales being the Honorary Colonel. They wear a drab unifoi'm, with scarlet facings and black plume. It must not be taken, however, that there is a finished scheme- although it is hoped that the proposals relating to it may be discussed at the coming Conference,--it has hardly left the "idea" stage as yet. But all admit it to be a grand and noble aim, and one that we all hope may become a fact before the present year comes to an end.
