A CANDIDATE WITH A RETIRING DISPOSITION.

(To the Editor). Sir,—l am pleased to see that a correspondent has drawn attention to a new candidate for the coming Council election, namely, Mr E. G. Williams. This gentleman being of a naturally retiring disposition, it is the outcome of a lot of pressure that has been brought to bear that he has offered himself for this election. Having been a resident of the town for 25 years his knowledge of Council affairs and the prominent part he has taken in all local affairs, particularly sports and charitable entertainments, stamps him as a man anybody should be glad to call a friend. His political ideas, he himself being a worker, naturally appeals to the ratepayers of the working class. His ideas of a State coal depot are fixed. It is needless to comment on the benefits to be derived by the workers by returning Mr . Williams as a Councillor.—l am, etc., CONSTANT READER. Masterton, April 20th,. 1907.

("Constant Reader," why have you not signed your proper name to your letter? Why do you and other correspondents prefer to be anonymous in the eyes of the public? If any further letters —similar to the above, and to several which have been published in our columns during the past few days—are forwarded publication of same will be refused. Candidates for Municipal honours should address the burgesses by the usual methods, viz., from the public platform, and through the columns of the Press, and not be contented with allowing their virtues-- to be extolled by their particular friends. —Ed. W-A..)
