THE WHANGAIMOANA ESTATE.
A RECORD SALE. : EVERY SECTION SOLD. LARGE ATTENDANCE OF ~ BUYERS. E REALISES £101,484. Probably never in the history of the Wairarapa h&s a land sale at- • tracted so much attefftion as that of the well-known . Whangaimoana Estate, which sale toolc place, yesterday afternoon, in the (Foresters' Hall, Messrs Abraham and .Williams, Ltd., being the auctioneers. Long before the appointed tijrie for the sale to commence, the building was packed to overflowing, considerable interest being taken in the proceedings. Buyers were present from the South Is'and, Hawke's Bay, Taranaki, Manawatu, and other places. The audience wer6 decidedly enthusiastic, and applause frequently followed after spirited bidding had taken place. Every section found a purchaser,, and all of them were secured by Wairarapa settlers. The prices realised were remarkably high, and one well-known land dealer described them as "sensational.." The sections, in most cases, were . started,at very fair prices. As an instance of the competition, Mr 0. C. Cooper, who weilded the hammer, , stated that the first section (No. 2) would be sold entirely without reserve, and from a start of £6 per acre, it was quickly run up to'£l2. The value of the sections sold totalled no less than £101,484. The following is a list of purchasers and the prices paid for each section: — Sec. Acreage. Purchaser.' Price.
