THE NATIVE LAND PROBLEM.
By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, April 18. Speaking at Tauranga, Mr M'Nab, ■ Minister for Lands, said the reason the black' cloud of native lands had hungfover the colony s so many years "Wan that riiore than lialf of the population had no interest at all in the native land question. From his knowledge, of the position now he could see that if the Northern members had said harsh things about the •Southern members who didn't pay any attention 'to the question, they were somewhat justified. He hoped the country was on the eve of a better ' state of things in regard to this problem. He would cause enquiries to ■' be made to see whether the bulk of the natives interested in some blocks could be induced to sell to • the Government direct, but he was in hopes of seeing some more com- ; prehensive thing than these Government purchases. The Government '' was thoroughly alive now to the importance of the • settlement of the ' native land question.
