CHRISTCHURCH RAILWAY FATALITY.
By Telegraph—Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, April 17. An inquest opened, this afternoon, touching the death of the man who was found lying by the railway track, near the Addington station,, after the second express for the South had passed. Evidence was given that the man, whose identity remains unknown, was standing on the platform of one of the carriages of the express when he swung round and fell off. The axle box struck his head and killed him. The guard, however, was not informed of the occurrence until five miles below Dunsandel, and the Coroner said it was a most extraordinary thing that those who saw the accident said nothing to the guard. Yesterday the body was identified as that of Edward McAnulty, of Kyle, near Ashburton, but it turns out that McAnulty is alive, and the inquest was adjourned till Monday in order that further enquiries might be made. To-night the man was identified as Neil McNeile, a labourer, of Ashburton.
