MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
ORDINARY MEETING,
The ordinary meeting of the Masterton Borough Council, last evening, was presided over by the Mayor (Mr J. A. Renall). The other Councillors in attendance were Crs J. H. Pauling, J. Elliott, F. W. Temple, T. G. Hoar. W. Morris, E. G. Eton, J. C. Ewington and E. McEwen. The Masterton County Council wrote asking the Council to repair the bridge over the Makora Stream in Nursery Road. The Engineer was instructed to report on the matter. Mr J. H. Timmins, of Woolston, made application for the position of engine-driver for the Council. It was decided to reply that when a driver was required, applications would be called for the position. Mr M. Aronsten wrote applying for a second-hand dealers' license. The application was granted subject to the consent of the Stipendiary Magistrate. Crs Pauling, Ewington, Temple, Elliott and McEwen appointed a committee to inspect the bridge and the road at the corner of Kuripuni Street and Colombo Road. Mr R. Peterson wrote asking for payment of compensation amounting to £BO in connection with the taking of his land for the widening of Makora Street. The Town Clerk stated that payment had been deferred pending the survey of the land. There was no reason why the money should not now be paid. The pound-keeper (Mr C. H. Savage) waited on, the Council and gave an explanation of the complaint made by Messrs Gardner Bros, to the effect that Mr Savage, had behaved in an offensive manner to them when asking for payment of poundage fees. The Council decided to forward the explanation to Messrs Gardner Bros. The Engineer was instructed to erect board fences at the ends of t.ho culverts over the Makora Creek in j Queen and Chapel Streets. The Engineer was ,also instructed to make provision for carrying away the storm water in King and Bruce Streets. Crs Ewington and Pauling were appointed a committee to act in conjunction with the Engineer in con nection with the widening of Cros Street. It was decided to call tenders for the laying down of the gas mains to the new hospital building.
