TRENTI-lAM TRAINING NOTES

Heavy rain fell at Trentham during Monday night, and there was a continuous drizzle during the early hours of yesterday morning, when training operations were in progress. The rain made the going treacherous, and although not enough to make the tracks holding, yet was all against fast times being put up. Cutts was first out with Glenculloch, who trotted once round the course, stepping out very freely. Lady Annie trotted and cantered. Wirral cantered to the seven furlong post, and galloping well; within himself, ran home in lmin 32sec. Assayer galloped one mile and threequarters at a nice threequarter speed, and pulling double all the time. Pas Seul cantered to the four furlongs post and ran the half-mile in 51 4-ssec. Seal Rock was a neck better than Probable over four furlongs run in 53sec. , Fairland was trotted and cantered twice round the course, and seems to have quite lost his soreness. Gold Crest, Royal Blue, and Swimming Belt w?re cantercdto the five furlong post and ran home in lmin 6sec, Gold Crest having a neck advantage of Royal Blue, with Swimming Belt tailed off half a dozen length?, Downfall ran six furlongs alone In lmin 17sec. Mahuta and j Sherlock Holmes were sent a mile at a useful threequarter speed, the latter having a slight call at the finish, j Platypus trotted up to the five furlong post and jumped off, taking 52 sec over the last half-mile. Erl King had a slight advantage over Oxton over five furlongs, negotiated in lmin 6 l-ssec. Count cantered round the course afad brushed home smartly over the last three furlongs. Achilles trotted on the tan; Marguerite walking and trotting. Wind and Gold Guard were sent a mile at threequarter to top, doing the last four furlongs in 52 l-ssec. Sunbonnet cantered to the four fur-1 long post, and ran home in 53sec. j Volume, alone, did six furlongs in lmin 19sec. Medallist and Kairoma finished together over five furlongs run in lmin 6 l-ssec. Pawa and Maui did a good working gallop of one mile and a quarter, being bustled along over the last four furlongs. Seaman and Ancycle did useful pacing work, Armamento being restricted to cantering. Mystification trotted twice round the course. Moloch ran five furlongs in lmin 6 l-ssec. Gawain, who appeared to be galloping well- within himself, <lid four furlongs in 51 3-ssec. The Lark had half a length the best of St. Joe over seven furlongs, run in lmin 30 2-ssec. Hiro went a mile at half-speed.

MARLBOROUGH NOMINATIONS.

Nominations for all events at the Autumn Meeting of the Marlborough Racing, Club, to be held at Blenheim on May Bth and 9th next, will close with the secretary, Mr L. Griffiths, Blenheim, at 9 o'clock on Saturday, April 20th. During the year the club has effected a number of improvements to the course and buildings, making the Riverlands course one of the most up-to-date race courses in the colony.

WHAKATAKI HACK RACE MEETING.

The annual races under the auspices of the Whakataki Hack Racing Club will be held on the beach at Castlepoint on Saturday 27th instant, and an excellent programme has been arranged. This fixture forms a pleasant outing at that picturesque seaside settlement, and given fine weather and a good beach there should be interesting sport.
