Bishop Wilson, of Melanesia, who is visiting Sydney, in an interview, declared there was not the slightest doubt that natives resident in the Islands would be extremely glad to welcome returning kanakas, nor was there the slightest doubt of their ability to feed them. Bishop Wilson added that those who spoke of inhumanity and of danger to returning kanakas spoke without knowledge of the true facts, and the real trouble would be more a source of clanger to whites. Many returning natives would find white men in possession of their land, which had been sold to the white men fairly enough by their friends, but for which the share of profits due to the returning natives would be found not to have been paid over.
