BESSES O' TH' BARN BAND.
The renowned Besses o' th' Barn Band are to inaugurate their Masterton season with an open air performance , next Thursday afternoon, at 3 o'clock, on the Showgrounds. It was feared at first the Besses could not make the necessary arrangements for an open-air concert, but the Showgrounds were generously lent for the occasion. At the Town Hall, on Thursday and Friday evenings, concerts by this famous band will be given. The Besses' New Zealand tour has been a succession of triumphs. The concerts have easily eclipsed any previous attraction brought to this country; unlike ordinary brass band performances the concerts are said to be an absolute revelation in tone and technique, their standard of music is of the highest, and in their vast repertoire of upwards of 1,000 pieces, a great deal of concerted numbers are indulged ' in. The Besses ? simple hymn tunes, together with the sacred solos, duets and trios, are described as resembling a grand organ. At Messrs McLsod and Young's stationery depot, seats may now be reserved for the evening performances, and tickets for ground and grandstand will be on sale tomorrow.
