BESSES O' TH' BARN BAND.
The well-known entrepreneur:;, Messrs J. and N. 'fait, in arranging for the famous Besses o' th' Barn Band to visit Masterton on Thursday next, the 18th inst., for two nights with special matinees, will no doubt reap the reward of their enterprise by large audiences patronising the three concerts here. This famous band, which comes from Whitfield, near Manchester takes its name from a quaint old village called Besses o' th' Barn. To Mr Alexander Owen, the celebrated conductor and composer, much of the credit of its long list of success is due, for he has been associated with the Besses for 25 years. Mr J. Henry lies, the English manager of the band, occupies a prominent position at Home, and has been designated "The Napoleon of the Band World," having directed the leading band festivals of Great Britain, and in eight years Mr lies has raised £25,000 for charities by his organisation of festivals and concerts. The box plan for reserved seats( ss) is at Mc'Leod and Young's.
