BATTLESHIP STRANDED.
Received April 10, 9.47 a.m. LONDON, April 9. The battleship Trafalgar, owing to a defect in her steering gear, was stranded at Devil's Point Reef, at the entrance of the Hamoaze, Devonport. There was a strong ebb tide, and she was towed off within half an hour, with two feet of water in her forward compartments. The damage is slight. Received April 10, 9.28 p.m. LONDON,ApriI 10. A misunderstood signal was the cause of the Trafalgar's mishap. (The Trafalgar is a battleship of 11,940 tons, 16.7 knots, completed in 1890, at a cost of £819,000).
