VICTORIAN FARMERS GO TO QUEENSLAND. Received April 10, 8.34 a.m. MELBOURNE, April 10. A band of seventy farmers have left Victoria for Queensland to take up land in ihe Darling Downs, being unable to secure land in Victoria at a reasonable price. QUARANTINING OF GAMBLING PLACES. Received April 10, 8.34 a.m. MELBOURNE, April 10. The case against "Wren's Tote" and the City Tattersall's Club, to have those premises quarantined under the anti-gambling laws, has concluded. The Judge stated that he would make no declaration against the buildings if the owners entered into an undertaking not to use them for gambling purposes, and if the necessary guarantee was given. Received April 11, 1.20 a.m. MELBOURNE, April 10. The Acting-Premier, commenting on the Judge's decision in the "Wren's Tote'' and City Tattersall's Club case, said that it was difficult to imagine what violation of the Act would be sufficient to induce the Judge to grant an order provided the offenders acknowledged their guilt and promised iiot to repeat the offence.
HEAVY WEATHER. Received April 10, 10.29 a.m. ADELAIDE, April 10. The iron barque Manurewa, 371 tons, experienced a fierce hurricane off the South Australian coast. She lost several sails and had to jettison 35,000 feet of kauri and white pine and a quantity of deck cargo. PLAGUE AT BRISBANE. Received April 11, 1.20 a.m. BRISBANE, April 10. Two cases of plague are reported. TATTERSALL'S SWEEPS. Received April 11, 1.17 a.m. MELBOURNE, April 10. An employee of the Tasmanian Parcels Express Company, alleged to be agents for Tattersall's sweeps, was fined £5 and ten guineas costs, he being found in a common gaminghouse, viz., the company's office, which was recently raided by the police. PEDESTRIANISM. CHAMPIONSHIP OF THE WORLD. Received April 11, 1.17 a.m. PERTH, April 10. At the Boulder Racecourse Postle ran Day tor the championship of the world, the distances being 200 yards, 300 yards and 450 yards. Postle won all the distances easily. SHIPPING.
