MASTERTON COUNTY COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING

The ordinary meeting of the Mastertou County Council, yesterday afternoon, was attended by Crs C. E. Cockburn-Hood (chairman), W. J. Welch, W. Harris, J.' Morris, W. H. Beetham, H. Toogood, and C. Kebbell. Apologies for absence were received from Crs A. Murray and D. Guild. , , . Mrs E. Meredith wrote thanking the Council for their expression of sympathy in connection with the death of her husband. Mrs E. Dorset, Mauriceville, wrote asking for permission to occupy gravel reserve adjoining her property at the junction of Northcroft's and Kaka-amu roads. The matter was left in the hands of Cr" Guild and the Engineer. . Mr Donald Fraser wrote asking permission to erect a fence line on the road adjacent to his property on the west side of the East Coast Road. Permission was granted. The application of Messrs H. and C. Lett, for the Council togaffix their seal to the plans of sub-division of the applicants' property at ■ Lansdowne, was held over until the next meeting in order to allow of certain works being carried out. Messrs O'Connor and Jones wrote informing the Council that they could not proceed with their metalling contract on the Opaki District Road at less than 4s per chain. They stated that their tender at £44 was considerably below what the work was actually worth; The action of Crs Welch and Harris in authorising the payment of 4s per chain for the contract was confirmed. Mr F. C. Lewis, for Messrs Lewis and Toogood, wrote protesting against their property being included in the Moroa Road Bridge, Special Rating Area. Cr Toogood stated that it had been decided by Mr Lewis and himself to withdraw the objection.

On the motion of Cr Welch, it was decided to take steps to compel the settlers along the Wangaehu River to cut the willows adjoining thenproper ties. The Council resolved to draw the Borough Council's attention to the state of the bridge over the Makora Stream on the boundary of the Borough and County. Permission was granted to Mr W. Liverton to fence off half a chain of the Masterton- Wairnata Road at the Rorokoko Hill.
