HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, April 8. The Department of Industries and Commerce have received the following cable from the High Commissioner, dated London, April 6th:—The butter market is dull except for best quality. Some holders of butter are forcing sales, and buyers are holding back expecting prices to lower. The average price of choicest New Zealand butter is 99a per cwt, Victorian 975, Danish 103s, Siberian 935. The fc>-'«h«ese market is slightly weaker with less demand at 63s percwt. The hemp markt is very quiet, owing to large shipments arriving from Manila. The market is speculative. New Zeal and, good fair grade on the spot, is quoted at £35 per ton; April to June shipments £34 10s; Manila hemp, fair current grade on the spot, ia quoted at £3B. The New Zealand hemp in stock amounts to 399 tons. /• The cocksfoot seed market is firm. ' There are light stocks on hand, and buyers have been offering for seed more freely; 17lbs bright dressed seed is quoted at 53s per cwt. Messrs Dalgety and Co., ltd., Wellington, have received the following cablegrams from London, dated 4th instant:—Frozen Meat: Better demand for lamb, principally for finest •qualities. Fair demand for mutton. Poor demand for beef. We quote : New Zealand prime crossbred lamb, •Canterbury, heavy s|d, light 5Jd; New Zealand prime crossbred lamb, North Island, heavy 4gd, light 4£d. New Zealand prime crossbred mutton, Canterbury, heavy S|d light 4Jd; New Zealand prime crossbred mutton, North Island, heavy 3fd, light 4d. New Zealand prime ox beef, fores 2|d, hinds 3§d. Butter: The Copenhagen official quotation is lower by 4 kroner (about 4s 6d) per cwt. The total imports of butter into the United Kingdom for the week ending March 30th amounted to 83,000 cwt., aa compared with 66,000 cwt. for the corresponding week of 1906. Tallow—Market very dull, nothing doing. Failing renewal of Russian demand, expect a gradual decline in prices. <
