Y.M.C.A.

ANNUAL MEETING.

The second annual meeting of the Masterton Y.M.C.A. was held in the rooms, Church Street, last evening. The Rev. A. M. Johnson occupied the chair, and there were about twenty members present. An apology for absence was received from the President, Mr P. L. Hollings. The annual report gave a detailed account of the working of the Association during the past year. Inter alia, it stated that the Association was growing rapidly, 37 members and 17 associates having become affiliated during the year. Twelve members had been expelled, and 25 had left the district, so that the membership at present totalled 100 members and 34 associates. For more than a year the Bible Class had been carried on with great success, but during the summer it had been in abeyance. The local clergy had promised their assistance in the event of the Class being again organised. The report went on to state that one of the most interesting developments during the year was the formation of a permanent ladies' auxiliary to carry out various works in connection with the Association. The auxiliary was at present engaged in preparing for the bazaar to be held in June. During the year a piano had been purchased and paid for by subscriptions from the members. The rooms were in the custody of Mr and Mrs Fielding, who were deserving of the warmest thanks of the Association for the indefatigable manner in which they had carried out their duties. With regard to the finances, the report stated that the position of the Association was precarious. The present overdraft at the bank had reached its maximum, and there were liablities yet to face. Doubtless these liabilities were covered by the assets of the Association, but unless something could be done to reduce the debt, the Association was hampered in its future development. The Board of Management, while rejoicing in the large membership, expressed its regret that at the present date there were 67 members in arrears with their subscriptions. The report also made reference to the establishment of variousc lubs during the year, all of which were in a flourishing condition, and receiving the support of members. After a few questions had been satisfactorily answered, the report was adopted, on the motion of. the Chairman.

The balance-sheet showed that the receipts had been £59 9s 2d, the principal items being £33 7s 6d on account of subscriptions. The expenses amounted to £l3B 8s 3d, the chie items being bank fees and interest £l9 3s 6d, piano £ls, custodian £l7 12s lOd, and gas account £l3 6s 9d. A dr. balance of £7B 19s Id was shown. A dr. balance of £252 12s 6d was brought forward from last year, making the present indebtedness of the Association £391 Os 9d. The assets were set down at £752 lis (building £560, furniture £l5O, outstanding subscriptions £42 lis) and the liabilities £357 13s 4d (Bank overdraft £331 lis 7d, rent £2O). The Chairman, in moving the adoption of the balance-sheet, commented on the state of the Association's membership, and the large amount of subscriptions outstanding. He urged the members to be prompt in the payment of their subscriptions, and to do their best to secure new members. Mr A. Donald suggested that in future an annual amount should be written off for depreciation in building and furniture. The balance-sheet was adopted. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows: -Hon. President, Mr James McGregor, senr.; President, Mr P. L. Rollings; Vice-Presi-dents, Messrs C. E. Daniell, H. T. Wood, James Elliott, R.
