UNION DEFENCE LEAGUE.
(From Our London Correspondent)
LONDON, February 16
Sir Arthur Douglas, who is the secretary of the newly-formed Union Defence League, was Under-Secre-tary for Defence in New Zealand, where he lived for some twenty-seven years. This league has been formed in view of the dubious attitude of the Government towards Home Rule and the probability that, a large measure of devolution will be introduced this session. Mr Walter Long, M.P., the late Chief Secretary for Ireland and the Chairman of the Irish Unionist members, is the guiding spirit, and it includes most of the Unionise in both Houses of Parliament and has the entire approval of the party leaders. The object of the association is to bring the real facts about Home Rule or devolution before the electors by means of an active campaign throughout the country.
