On the motion of Mr Thorn (Canterbury) it was resolved that whex*eas all the financial benefits accruing from labour legislation in the past had been nullified by the action of the capitalists class raising prices out of proportion the increase in wages, and whereas the reason of this i lies in the uncurbed powder of capitalists, this Conference strongly urges the people of New Zealand to make a stand and demand legislation that will initiate a system of producing the necessaries of life and of supplying them to the pfople at a lower cost. ' .A letter was received from Mr Macdonald, of the White Australian movement, who sent to ascertain the feeling of the Conference with regard to the jcompetition of piison labour in general trade articles. The Conference unanimously resolved: —"That <our prisons should be removed from the centres of population, and the inmates general-y should be employed in re-afforestation and agricultural pursuits, and that those unable to engage in such employment should be restricted to manufacture articles required in connection with prisons."
