CHARGE OF MANSLAUGHTER

"By Telegraph— Association. : ' i CHRISTCHURCH, April 3. At the Magistrate's Court, a young man, named William Barnard Rhodes jMoorhouse, was charged With manslaughter in that he did. by neglect and , improper riding, catise the death, at New Brighton, on Friday, March 22nd, of Kenhfet Fredrick .Gourlay. The. case arose out of the recent motor fatality on the New Brighton beach, where the accused who was practising for a motor race to be held the next day, ran into the boy, who was seven years old, and inflicted injuries which resulted in death shortly afterwards. It was stated in evidence that the accused, after the accident, admitted that he thought he was travelling at the race of seventy miles an hour at the time. Accused, who reserved his defence and pleaded not guilty, was committed to the Supreme Court for trial.
