MASTERTON MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
QUARTERLY RETURNS. The return of the business trans-, aeed at the Masterton Magistrae's Cotirt during the quarter ended March 31st shows that the Court sat ok 61 occasions. Thirty-three sittings were presided over by the Stipendiary Magistrate, and 28 by Justices of the Peace. The number of applications heard in Court or Chambers was 10, number of orders made (other tluan on judgment summons) 6, number of plaints entered 143, number of. distress warrants issued 15, number of judgment summonses issued 21, number of orders made on judgment summons 8, number of summonses and other processes issued by the bailiff 151, number of distress warrants executed by the bailiff 15. The aggregate amount sued for 'Was £1,235 15s, and the aggregate amount recovered £593 95.. The amount of civil fees paid in stamps was £59 18s, and the amount of licensing fees paid in stamps £3 7f?. ' The total number of persons taken into custody, summoned or apprehended during the quarter was 158 (151 males and 7 females). Of these 33 (32 males and 1 female) were discharged for want of prosecution or want of evidence, 3 males were committed for trial, 90 (85 males and 5 females) Were summarily convicted, and 3& (31 males and 1 female) were otherwise dealt with. The amount of criminal fees paid in stamps was £7 12s, and the amount of fines paid in stamps was £27 lis.
