TRADE AND LABOUR CONFERENCE.
By Telegraph—Press " Association. DUNEDIN, April 2. At the Trade and Labour Conference a motion, by Mr McLaren, of Wellington, to the effect that the remarks by the Attorney-General and the Minister of Labour, concerning Australian slaughtermen stirring up the strike, were quite uncalled for |f offensive and contemptible, provoked J. considerable discussion, and was eventually carried by 15 to 4. An amendment to strike out the words "offensive and contemptible," was lost by 10 to 9. A clause, regretting that the Government had not given Labour better representation in the Legislative Council was withdrawn irom the executive's report, the chief reason being that it was foolish to insert such a clause when the Conference had repeatedly expressed itself against continuance of the , second chamber.
