The investments through the machine amounted to £10,032, against £15,611 for the second day last year. CANTERBURY RACES. By Telegraph—Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, April 2. The Canterbury Jockey Club's autumn meeting concluded in fine weather. The investments totalled ,£17,736, an increase of £7,897. The winning double, in the Easter and Autumn Handicaps, paid £4B 2s. Although the racing was interesting, the contest for the Challenge Stakes wa.« spoilt, to a large extent, by Achilles falling. The stewards held an enquiry into the circumstance, but took no action. Results:— Peersv/ick Hurdles Handicap, 1| mile -Evenlode, 11.10, 1; Leeside, 11.8, 2; Narcissus, 9.0, 8. Also started—Ability, Slow Tom, and Wild Cat. Won by two lengths. Time, 3min 22 4-ssec. Dividends, £4 7s (id. Slow Tom fell at the last hurdle. Autumn Nursery Handicap, 5 furlonrs— Gold Beater, 7.6, 1; Oxton, 8.5,'2; Rose Noble, 8.10, 3. Also started Bonny Glen, Amboise, Cockleshell, Santa Claus. Gold Beater was in front all the way, and won by a length and a half. Time, Imin 13 l-ssec. Dividend, £5 lis.
