WAIRARAPA RACING CLUB'S MEETING.

FIRST DAY. (Special Reporter. The Wairarapa Racing Club were ; favoured with glorious weather for the opening day of their Autumn Meeting on the Tauherenikau Course on Saturday. The attendance was well up to that of previous years. As the result of the rain on the previous days the going was very heavy. During the day two protests were lodged, and one enquiry held. The first protest was in the Hurdle Race. The owner of Acetylene, who ran third, entered a protest against Oryx, the second horse, on the grounds that the owner of the latter had started a horse at an unregistered meeting at Greytown. Mr A. E. McDonell, the owner of Oryx, gave a satisfactory explanation of the matter, and the Stewards dismissed the protest. ! The Stewards held an enquiry into the running of Te Kainui in the same race. After a lengthy discussion, it was decided to disqualify the rider of Te Kainui (T. Pritchard) during the pleasure of the Stewards and further consideration of the matter was adjourned until a future date. After the last race the Stewards, however, held another meeting, and rescinded their former resolution. They decided to postpone the enquiry into the horse's running until a future date, and released Pritchard until that time. Another protest against the winner of the Eastei: iianuicap (Mahuta) on the grounds of interference in the straight was dismissed. During the day Mr J. R. Nicol offered Lavinia, the winner of the Hurdle Race, for sale by auction. The bidding reached 90 guineas, but the horse was passed in unsold. The sum of £6,733 was put through the machine during the day, as compared with £8,361 for the corresponding day at the last Autumn Meeting, being a decrease of £1,628. The results were aa follow:
