THE REVOLT IN ROUMANIA.
BUCHAREST, March 27. The Roumanian trouble is only partly anti-Semitic. It is largely due to trusts monopolising the land, and leasing it to the peasants at twice or thrice the rental the trusts pay. There have been serious encounters between peasants and troops in the Vlashka district of Roumania, and many peasants have been killed or. wounded. Telephones and telegraphs have been cut. Peasants, led by village schoolmasters, have committed terrible atrocities. Many landholders have been burned to death. The entire village of Rudemy has been burned, and many Jews perished in the flames. Bills for the abolition of taxes in favour of the peasants have passed the House. Received March 29, 9.44 a.m. BUDAPESTH, March 28. Kraskoviky Polorueff, a member of the Union of Russian People, who was implicated in the murder of Hertzenstein, has been arrested at Budapesth. There he assisted to foment anti-Semitic riots in Roumania.
TROOPS DISPLAY GREAT VIGOUR. FIVE HUNDRED PEASANTS KILLED. REVOLUTIONARIES AND ANARCHISTS ASSISTING THE REBELS. Received March 30, 1.17 a.m. BUCHAREST, March 29. The Roumanian Minister of Finance estimates the lusses at four million sterling.' The troops display thegreatest vigour. It is estimated that they killed 500 peasants and wounded many. Eleven officers were killed and wounded. There are indications that many Russian revolutionaries and foreign anarchists are assisting the rebels. Some urge that bombs should be thrown at the troops.
