It will be noticed, says the London correspondent of the New Zealand Dairyman, that the difference between Danish butter and New Zealand is very great. This is because most of the Danish butter has gone to the same retailers for years, while the factories in New Zealand, unlike, Australian factories, are too short sighted to sacrifice a little on one or two years of bad markets to keep the butter in the hands of the best people. The possibility of a new and hideous trouble in connection with the Domestic Workers' Union occurs to us (writes the Dunedin Beacon). Just a few weeks ago a butcher or a baker, or'some other kind of tradesman, who was bound by an Arbitration award and the Act and other things, was found guilty of employing a son to do odd jobs, the said son not being an apprentice or a journeyman. The average mother who, as a person to be bound under the Domestic Workers' award (when it is. made) has been in the pernicious habit of accepting the services of her daughters in regard to housework, will not be permitted to do so in future. This is on a par with the sin of the tradesman who accepted the services of his son. Will ladies, kindly note that, even though they have six daughters, they must not accept their help unless the said daughters are members of the Domestic Workers' 'Union and are paid the wage. Mothers with six or fewer daughters may, of course', do .the whole of the work themselves. We progress. Nothing could be worse for the system than some of those violent cathartics or purgatives that some people tube to mova their bowels. They trenuenUy cause constipation, sometimes inflammation.
