PONGAROA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) March 18. Messrs Mason and Millsted were accorded a hearty "send-off," last ■week. They will leave for London by the s.s. lonic at the end of this month for a few months' holiday. The examination of several schools in this County is now finished. Messrs Bakewell and Tennent were the examining inspectox-s. A serious bolt occurred, on Saturday evening last, in the township. A horse attached to a gig took fright, and bolted down the Aohanga Valley Road, coming to grief in the drain past Brenton's accommodation house. Fortunately, the owner, Mr Paul Stenburg, had just alighted from the vehicle. The gig was considerably damaged. Whooping .cough is very prevalent here. Sheep-dipping is in full swing here. Flocks are looking well, and at present there is plenty of feed. Mr W. Wright recently had his foot severely crushed by a bullockdray passing over it. Master E. Meech had his arm broken by being thrown from his horse. Local sawmills are busy cutting bridge timber for the Roads Department. Mr P. O'Dowd, well and favourably known here, has taken over the Malt uri Hotel.
