FOOTBALL NOTES.
(By All Black). The Masterton Club will hold a practice on the Showgrounds to-day. A match will be played at Wellington on Easter Saturday between the Eed Star and Melrose Seniors. It is stated that Grey town does not intend to enter a team for the Wairarapa Rugby Union's Senior Competition this year. Another club, called the Ruahine dub, has been formed at Grey town. A meeting of the Management Committee of the Red Star Club will bSlheld this evening. Liberals (Featherston) should be able to put a strong team in the ,Afield this year, judging from the players that'are available. P. Rogers intends to play with them this season, I understand. The annual meeting of the Masterton Club will be held next Wednesday. Rumour hath it that some trouble •will probably be experienced in Masterton this season in obtaining a ground for football matches. Home and homo matches will be played between the Carterton and, Rdd Star teams before the commencement of the Senior fixures. C. Ross, who was a member of last year's Canterbury team, has thrown in his lot with the Masterton Club. Chapman has returned to Masterton from New Plymouth and will again play for the Blacks. ft is stated that the Red Stars will have a good back team this year. Ladner, a Thames representative, •will play with the Stars this season, and is said to be a smart three-quar-ter. The position of half will be filled by Adams, who played behind the scrum for the Melrose (Wellingon) Seniors last year, and is a good solid player. W. Norman, the Albion hooker, and W. Spring, another Albion forward, have thrown in their lot with the Stars this season. Other new forwards who may be 'seen in the Stars' ranks this year are Collett, a Timaru player, and Smith, who hails from Napier. E. McKenzie, I hear, dees not inJtend to play this season. If this is correct Carterton will sadly miss the genial "Ted," who has clone yeoman service for the Reds. No player in the Wairarapa plays a cleaner game than McKenzie, and his retirement from the football field will be regretted by all followers of the game. Groube, who last season played for a Wellington Senior team, wiU don the jersey for Carterton this year. % The Albion Club will, I am informed, have some difficulty in plac•ifng a senior team in the field this season. ' The St. -James Club (Wellington) intend to enter a team for the Wellington Senior Championship this season. It is reported that a wellknown Masterton back will don the jsrsey for them. A match was played at Richmond (England) on January sth, between England and France, and resulted in a win for the former by 41 points to 13. This is the first international match that has been played between England and France. It is intended to make the fixture an.annual one.
