THE CHANNEL TUNNEL.
Received March 22, 10.4 p.m. LONDON, March 22. In the House of Lords Lord Crewe announced that the Government were opposed to the Channel tunnel. The Marquis of Lansdowne said he retained the opinion that the tunnel was a great convenience, but he did not believe that it was possible to eonvinco the Nation of this. "We should run no risk by the tunnel," said tne Marquis. "Hence its construction would occasion a new source of anxiety in peace time, and a grave additional cause of anxiety in war time." '
' Received March 22, 10.4 p.m. LONDON, March 22. Major-General Baden-Powell, replying to a correspondent, said that he considered that* the tunnel from a strategic standpoint would be a mistake.
