FIRE BRIGADES DEMONSTRATION.

The competitions under the auspices of the United Fire Brigades' Association were resumed to-day in splendid weather, and with a capital attendance. The results areas follow: One-man Manual (first prize £B, second £6, third £4, fourth £2).— Christchurch (Foreman E. Boroughs), 36 2-ssec, including lsec penalty, 1; Timaru (Captain Campbell), 36 3-ssec, 2; Hastings (Fireman W. Graham), 38 3-ssec, 3; Greymouth (Fireman J. Kennedy), 39sec, 2sec penalty, 4. Also competed:— Gisborne, 42 4-ssec, lsec penalty; Temuka, 43sec, 2sec penalty; Napier, 43 3-ssec, 1 sec penalty; Ashburton, 45 2-ssec, lsec penalty; Geraldine, 40 3-ssec; Dunedin City, 42 2-ssec; Hawera, 41 4-ssec; Greymouth, 39sec, 2sec penalty. Eastown Railway, Westport, Levin, Masterton, Marton, Petone. Lower Hutt, Kaiapoi and Waipawa. Richmond and Corowa (New South Wales) were disqualified.

City, 58sec, 3; Auckland, 59 3-ssec, 4; Hastings, 59 4-ssec, 5. Also competed— Caversham, 60 l-ssec; Waihi, 63 4-ssec; Hillside Railway, 68 2-ssec; Dunedin South, 63 l-ssec, lsec penalty; Hokitika, 61 2-ssec, lsec penalty; Masterton, 57 3-ssec; Hawera, 63 4-ssec; Hokitika, 61 2-53SC, lsec penalty; Marton, 68sec; Ross, 68 l-ssec; New Plymouth, 64 4sec penalty; Mount Eden, 66sec, lsec penalty; Woodville, Port Chalmers, Stratford, St. Kilda and Alexandra. Five-man Manual (first prize £35, and Speight and Co.'s Challenge Shield, second £2O, third £ls, fourth £10). —Hawera, 44sec, 1.; Timaru, 44 2-ssec, 2; Gore, 47 2-ssec, 2sec penalty, 3; Ashburton, 47 2-ssec, 3 sec penalty, 4; Hastings, 47 4-ssec, 2sec penalty, 5.' Also competed.— Greymouth, 48 2-ssec; Carterton, 54 2-ssec; Christchurch, 48 4-ssec,2 sec penalty, Lower Hutt, Spit, Rangiora, Dunedin, Westport, Napier, Hokitika, Masterton and Petone. Gore and Ashburton having tied for third and fourth places ran off, Gore winning in 40 *2-ssec (a record for the colony). Ashburton-repeated its previous performance, 47 2-ssec. ' Ladder Race, one man (first prize £B, second £6, third £4, fourth £2). —Napier (A. Peterson), 7 4-ssec, 1; Greymouth (H. Blockage), Bsec, 2; Dunedin City (A. Duncan), Bsec, 3; Hokitika (R. Ross),, 8 l-saec, 4. There were a large number of competitors in this event who tied for second and third places, and five, for fourth place. The runs off resulted as above. , The competitions will be continued td-morrow.
