THE BESSES O' TH' BARN BAND.
Mr John H. Tait, of the wellknown firm of concert managers (J. and N. Tiit), paid a visit to Masterton yesterday to finally fix dates for the season of the world-famous Besses o' th' Barn Band. Mr Tait informed an Age representative that the band will appear at the Town Hall, Masterton, on Friday and Saturday, April 19th and 20th. For the convenience of / those at a distance and those unable to come out at night time a special matinee will in all probability be given in the Town Hall on Friday afternoon, April 19th. The fame of the band has spread all over the colony, and one admirer fitly describes their playing as "a musical awakening." Overflowing houses are sure to greet the great band in Masterton. Messrs J. and N. Tait are also arranging for Miss Marie Hall, the phenomenal violinist, to visit Masterton. Miss Hall a few years ago was earning coppers by playing to passers-by in the streets'of: London and Bristol. She is only 25 years old, and to-day is regarded as the greatest living lady violinist. Her career has Heen a really remarkable one. In September Mdme. Clara Butt, the famous contralto, accompanied by her husband, Mr Kennerley Rumfnrd, the popular baritone, will visit the colonies. Mdme. Clara Butt is to-day one of the greatest stars in the musical firmament. Critics say that her voice is incomparable, and that her tour will be an enormous success. Mdme. Clara Butt is six feet three inches in height, and has a magnificent personalty. Mdme. Clara Butt may visit Masterton.
