HOROWHENUA RACES. By Telegraph—Press Association. PALMERSTON N., March 18. The Horowhenua races were held under unfavourable circumstances today. Rain fell on the previous night, and during the day, setting in heavier as the day advanced. There were small fields. The course was cut up considerably. The amount put through the totalisator was £1,832, as against £4,646 last year. Results : Flying Hack Handicap.—Playmate 1, Waicola 2, Saga 3. Time lmin 5 4-5 sec. Dividends, £1 17s and £1 ss. Also started—Prevail, Chattel, Lothair, Lady Storm, Pixie and Hihoinai. Won by three lengths. Park Stakes.— Kitchenmaid 1, Lord Soult 2, Miretta 3. Time, lmin 20 l-ssec. Dividend, £ll3s. Scratched —Splendid Idea and Flotilla. Won by two lengths. ( Kaputaroa Hack Handicap.—Rendrock 1, Belario 2, Truthful 3. Time, lmin 35sec. Dividends, £6 4s and £l6 4s. Scratched—Mahoe. HOROWHENUA CUP. Handsome Rose 1 Kuku 2 The Lark... 3 Time, 2min 17sec. Dividend, £3 16s. Only starters. Handsome Rosa took the race very easily, passing Kuku in the straight. Wuii by three lengths. Hack Hurdle Handicap.—Romany Lad 1, Bandmaster 2, Lul 3. Time, 3min lsec. Divid3nd, £lO 6s. Also started—Domain and Arahura. Won easily by four lengths. The winner had command of the race all the way. Kawaia Hack Handicap.—William 1, Kaiuku 2, Chattel 3. Time, lmin, 22sec. Dividends, £2 Is. Also started—Addnot. The latter was (eft at the post. Winner led all the way, winning easily. St. Patrick's Welter.—Flotilla 1, Karawaka 2. Time, lmin 39sec. Dividend, £1 18s. Only starters. Won by half a length. Hokio Hack.—Rendrock 1, Pawa 2, Highden 3. Time, lmin 54sec. Dividends, £2 17s and 12s. Also started —Devonia, Blue Diamond, and Cavelier. Pawa led all the way to within a few yard of the post. Rendrock won by a head.
