LARGEST CRUISER. Received March 18, 8.39 a.m. LONDON, March 17. The Indomitable, the largest cruiser in the world, has been launched, at Glasgow. BIG FIRE IN LONDON. Received March IS, 8.39 a.m. LONDON. March 17. A fire in City Road, London, destroyed three large warehouses, and damaged other buildings. The loss is estimated at £200,000. SOCIALISTIC COLONY DESTROYED EY FIRE. Received March 18, 8.39 a.m. NEW YORK, March 17. The socialistic colony established in New Jersey by Mr Upton Sinclair, author of "The Jungle," has been destroyed by fire. Fifty-five inmates, including the novelist himself, jumped from windows in their night clothes. One was killed and several were injured.
THE IMPERIAL CONFERENCE. Received March 18, 8.39 a.m. LONDON, March 17. Mr W. Reeves, High Commissioner for New Zealand, speaking at Liverpool, expressed the hope that the Imperial Conference would consider the question of Imperial trade development. There were many ways open for such development, including encouragement of shipping.

Rockefeller is giving ten millions sterling to establish unsectarian schools in China as a preliminary to an effort to Christianise the people. He believes that the missionaries should first educate the Chinese and then try to convert them. COLLISION AT SEA. Received March 18, 11.55 p.m. PARIS, March 18. The French destroyer Epee. while manoeuvring with lights out, off Ajacuio. collided with a torpedo boat, one of whose steam pipes burst, killing the quarter-master and a stoker and wounding another of the crew.
