WORLD'S CHAMPION BEATEN. LONDON, March 15. Ritchie, of England, beat H. L. Doherty, the world's champion tennis player, in the Lawn Tennis Championship at Monte Carlo, by three sets to love. (H. L. Doherty, the world's champion lawn tennis player, has been beaten in three sets straight at the Monte Carlo championship by Ritchie, the English player. In 1905 Ritchie beat H. L. Doherty at Queen's Club. The reason given then by many critics was that he possessed a greater knowledge of tactics and a little more equanimity than his opponent. Ritchie simply rushed his man every time in the 1905 match, and was up at net almost all the time. In 1006 Wilding beat Ritchie in the final of the French Covered Court championship, 6—2, 6—l, 61, and again at the Queen's Club Covered Court championships, 6-3, 6-3, 6-1. In 1906, Wilding got to the fourth round of the Monte Carlo championship, being beaten by H. L. Doherty, B—6, 6—3, €—6, 60. At Cannes Wilding beat Ritchie, 9—7, 6—2, in the semifinal.)
