King Alfonso, of Spain, has re--covered from the attack of influenza tfrom which he has been suffering.
It is reported that the shortage of trucks for sheep is becoming more ■ acute. It is costing this district, says the Feilding Star, hundreds of .pounds every week, owing to the delay in getting away stock.
Owing to the large amount of building now going on in New Plymouth and Northern Taranaki, master builders are experiencing trouble in obtaining carpenters. The building trade in New Plymouth has never been brisker than at present.
People in Germany are getting anxious about the relative decrease in the number of cattle in the Ten years ago there were 35 head of cattle and 20 sheep for every 100 people. These numbers have now fallen to 32 cattle and 13 sheep per 100 inhabitants, and, in consequence, the price of meat has risen about 38 per cent.
The body of the late Mr Nicholas Stenhouse, who died suddenly at Kaitoke on Wednesday evening, was brought to Masterton by train on Saturday morning. The funeral left the railway station for the cemetery. The cortege included a large number *©f Greytown settlers, among whom the deceased was well-known. The "Rev, A. T. Thompson conducted the services at the graveside, and the pall-bearers were Messrs F. and I. O'Connor and S. and N. Fuller.
Replying to an Auckland deputation, which urged the Government to inaugurate a scheme of agricultural education in the Auckland district, Mr Fowlds said he was in sympathy with any reasonable proposal to extend the benefit of agricultural -education.' Mr McNab. had also "'taken a keen interest in the subject. 'Whatever was done should be done "by the co-operation of the two departments 1 ' to prevent overlapping.
