THE EXHIBITION.

CHRISTCHURCH, March 15. There was a very fair attendance at the Exhibition again to-day. Mr Gregson, the London organist, gave his second organ recital, which was very largely attended. The last concert of the series will be given temorrow afternoon. Recently the Government communicated with the Education Departments of several countries and procured a number of exhibits which have been arranged in One of the bays in the northern galof the Exhibition and must prove ,of great interest to all who are interested in education. From Germany there came some very'fine working drawings, giving fulldetails of the construction of school, desks for children of various sizes. The Education Department of Japan, forwarded a series of working drawings and photographs of school desks, used in that country. The desks are of somewhat unusual design, and would not be suitable for New Zealand children. The best collection came from the United States, and comprises a series of photographs of ! public school, high school, and technical school . buildings, showing the internal arrangements and the methods of sanitation, heating and ventilation employed. Photographs of various class-rooms in some of thelarger schools of New York are most interesting, particularly those depicting . the cookery departments, the* laboratories, workshops and gymnasiums. The method of fitting up and arranging the different departs ment's is clearly-shown, and should ;be of considerable value to the educational authorities of New Zea- | land. A number of colonial invenj ti'ons are also shown. When the I Exhibition is closed, the photographs and drawings received from abroad , are to be properly mounted, and will ! be lent, in turn, to the different Edul cation Boards in the colony. Extenj sive preparations are being made-by , the Fire Brigades' Association for the demonstration of fighting theflames, which is to be one of the features of the next week's series of spectacles in connection with the competitions. A large building is in* course of erection for the demonstration within the Exhibition Sports; Ground. In addition to this exciting scene, there will be a display of fireworks by Pain and Sons, of London. The double bill is fixed for next Wednesday night. On Thursday night a water carnival and pyrotechnic display will be given by the Fire Brigades on Victoria Lake. The fifty thousandth person to make the ascent of the Exhibition tower received a. memento of a post-card album and a complete set of post-cards yesterday. Twelve hundred persons made the trip in the elevator during the dayWonderland's exciting- gold rush will. take place on Friday, March 22nd.. A gold nugget, valued at £3O-, wilb be buried in the sand, ;>.'.id licenses todig for the same sold to the public at sixpence each, the nugget to belong to the discoverer. A beautyshow on a large scale, and physical development competition, will be held on the same date. It has been definitely decided that the Exhibition: will not be opaned on Good Friday.
