The Victorian wheat harvest is estimated at twenty-four million bushels, an increase of a million bushels over last year's. • AUSTRALASIAN MAILS. IMPROVED VANCOUVER SERVICE FAVOURED. Received March 14, 9.48 a.m. MELBOURNE, March 14. Mr Chapman, Postmaster-General, favours the improving of the Vancouver service by the substitution of sixteen-knot boats. A suggestion has been made that the service should receive a subsidy of £IIO,OOO, of which Canada will pay £50,000, New Zealand £40,000, and Australia £20,000. The matter will be discussed by the three Premiers —Mr Deakin, Sir Joseph Ward and Sir Wilfrid Laurier —in London. Received March 15, 12.45 a.m. BRISBANE, March 14. The Brisbane Chamber of Commerce has resolved to protest against the proposal to exclude- Brisbane as a port of call of the Vancouver service, and to ask the Postmaster-General to safeguard the interests of Queensland.
