STOCK MARKET.
The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd.,report as follows on the annual settlers' sale of stock at Upper Opaki on Tuesday:— We offered a good average yarding in sheep of all classes, and the list generally being good all lines were well competed for, with the result that only one solitary pen were left unsold. Breeding ewes according to age and quality had a range from 10s 6d to 12s, culls 7s 6d, wethers from 14s 2d to 15s 6d, best lambs up to 10s 6d, others 7s 6d to 8s 6d. Cattle entries were limited, but all sold at recent values. Calves from 12s, heifers up to 51s. At Masterton, yesterday our yarding in sheep comprised upwards of 6,000, with a general range of quality, and we have to again report a good firm tone throughout with the result that at the close of the sale less than 500 were turned out unsold. Cattle entries were limited, and bidding slack, but all eventually sold privately. Medium fat wethers made 16s 6d,fat ewes 14s 10' d, store wethers, according to quality 13s Id to 15s 6d, forward ewes 12s to 13s 6d, bestbreeding ewes up to 14s, others 12s. td l3s, medium 10s to lis, 'culls 7s ' to 9s, very good lambs made 12s Id, rape lambs 8s 9d to 10s, stores 7s 6d to 8s 6d, small 5s to 6s 9d, good 18month steers made £2 3s 6d, yearlings 31s, cow£j, calves and stores at; recent values. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency C 9., Ltd., report:— On our usual monthly sale at Pongaroa we report as follows:—■ Sheep came to hand in good numbers, a record entry being catalogued, the accommodation being taxed to its utmost. Competition was keen for good quality ewes, wethers and lambs, every line being quitted with the exception of a few rams at sound market rates. In cattle the yarding was quite up to the average, but quality being poor only about 50 per cent, changed hands. Ewes realized from 10s Id to 15s lid,for best poorer j sorts 6s 4d to 9s 6d, wethers up to 15s Id and 15s 4d, and lambs 9s 7d, < Lincoln rams 4| gns,young steers 46s to 60s, heifers 50s. At Pahiatua we penned about" 3,000 sheep, cattle not being well represented. Breeding ewes of decent quality met with sound competition, the major portion being quitted at sound rates. Lambs met with a ; ready sale, the bulk of those offered being fair store sorts. In cattle the quality was very mediocre, little business resulting. Ewes brought 12s Id to 13s lid, culls 7s 4d to 8s ' lOd, lambs up to. 8s 3d and 8s 6d, rams 3gns. ' 4
Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report on their Pahiatua stock sale, held on Tuesday as ifollows We submitted an unusually heavy yarding of sheep, upwards of 8,000 offering, which met a ready sale, and an almost total clearance resulted. The attendance was large, buyers from the Wairarapa, West Coast and Dannevirke districts being prominent, and bidding at auction may be described as good throughout. A feature of the sate was the entry of several lines of cull tw s o-tooths on behalf of Makuri settlers; the sheep, although somewhat small, were wqII cared for, and shoWed signs of breeding on proper lines. Mr H. F. Coom, Makuri, secured the record price of the district of 19s 6d for his entry, the other settlers ranging from 16s to 17s 2d. A fair entry of cattle was submitted which, however, in most instances were difficult to quit, although'an. enquiry existed for good / sorts. Eighteen months and 2-year-old steers £2 16s, empty heifers £2 12s 6d to £2 15s, fat cows £3 10s to £4 10s, dry cows £2 15s to £2 18s, aged bulls 255, sound-mouth breeding ewes, good lines, 14s 9d to 15s 6d, others lis 6d to 12s 9d, aged ewes with failing mouths 8s 3d to lis (according to condition), crocks 4s to 5s lid, 2-tooth ewes 16s to 19s 6d, small sheep 13s lOd to 13s lid, 2tooth wethers, 14s Id to 15s, small lambs 7s to 8s lid, and down to 5s for weedy sorts, 2-tooth i Romney rams 2Jgns to 3£gns, good Lincoln rams 3gns to sgns, aged rams 7s to 20s. • : \ . Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., held their fortnightly sale at the Master- y ton yards, yesterday, when their 1 entries exceeded 5,000 isheep. The quality on the whole was not so good as at last sale, but notwithstanding this there was a strong demand throughout, almost the whole yarding being disposed !. of. Bidding for superior lines was animated, and prices for this class showed an improvement on recent rates. Twotooth ewes sold'at 16s 9d, 2-tooth wethers 15s 7d, sound-mouth breeding ewes 12s 8d to 13s lid, culls 7s 4d to 9s 9d, good shorn lambs 9s 2d ,' to 10s Bd, culls from 6s 9d, forward woolly lambs lis 3d, culls 8s 3d, two : tooth Romney rams 2£gns to 4gns, aged Ign, 2-tooth Lincoln rams 3£gns to 4£gns, forward empty 70s, light porker pigs 21s.
