A MOTOR "COW-CATCHER."

An invention has just been patented which promises to prevent fatal accidents by motor cars. It is of the American "cowcatcher" type, V-shaped, and sloping from top to base, intended to project beyond wheels and mud guards, and presenting an inclined plane on either side, from which the person struck would roll off, away from the vehicle. The guard is made to strike below the knees, and the base has a pneumatic or other resilient covering. The guard itself has spring attachments affixed to the chassis or other suitable part of the vehicle, in order to impart a readily yielding motion, and to break the force of the impact. The inventor is Mr J. E. Ansell, who was induced to consider the subject by seeing a man pinned under the wheels of a car in Trafalgar Square.
