AN UNWILLING WITNESS.
WARRANT FOR THE ARREST OF ROCKEFELLER. NEW YORK, March 8. Owing to his evading a subpoena to testify at St. Louis in a suit against the Standard Oil Company, a warrant has been issued for the arrest of Mr J. D. Rockefeller. (Dodging subpoenas is no new accomplishment of American millionaires. An interesting phase, and its development is afforded by the proceeding's of the Inter-State Commerce Commission, concerning which the American correspondent of the Sydney Morning Herald writes: —"One greatly-needed witness, the son-in-law of Mr Rockefeller and head of the Rockefeller system of banks, slipped off to Europe before a subpoena could be served upon him; and so the other magnates wanted —William Rockefeller, Frick, Rogers, and some others —have been served with 're exeat' writs—a prohibition to leave the country, until they are released by the commission—altogether an exceptional proceeding.")
