M.C.C. v. NEW ZEALAND,
VISITORS WIN BY NINE WICKETS.
By Telegraph—Press Association,
CHRISTCHURCH, March 4,
The match between the New Zealand team and the M.C.C. team, was concluded this afternoon. The weather was fine, though a cold wind blew across the ground. The not out men, Johnson (32) and Burns (2), carried on the batting to the bowling of Downes and Bennett. Notwithstanding the frequent changes in the bowling, both batsmen put on the runs in fine style, and in less than half an hour the century was hoisted, with both men going strongly. One hundred and ten quickly followed. Johnson hit Calloway for ten in one over, including two fine houndary strokes, and 120 went up. One hundred and thirty followed in a few minutes, and Burns, getting Bennett grandly to the off boundary, brought the end very near. A grand cut by Johnson off Callaway made the winning hit.
